Enlace Latino NC, a nonprofit, Spanish-language digital-native media newsroom in North Carolina, reported on Senate Bill 153: North Carolina Border Protection Act, saying, "Rep. Carla Cunningham, a Democrat from Mecklenburg, voted against SB 153, arguing that it went too far. Cunningham previously supported HB 10, which requires sheriffs to cooperate with ICE."

The article went on to explain that Rep. Cunningham voted against SB 153, arguing that it went “too far.”

“Yes, I want ICE to arrest the people who are devastating our communities. Those who traffic and smuggle drugs—yes, I still want that,” Cunningham said. “But I don’t want innocent people to be harmed.”
