Rep. Carla Cunningham Will Not Be Distracted by Governor's Endorsement
Statement in Response to Governor’s Endorsement in the 106th District Primary
I note the Governor’s decision to involve himself in the 106th District primary. While I respect the office he holds, the principle of separation of powers exists for a reason—to ensure balance and keep government accountable to the people, not personal agendas.
Our communities deserve leadership that listens, not intimidation, division, or political pressure. Several months ago, I made it clear to the Governor and his staff that our district will no longer accept empty promises. The needs of our families, seniors, and children are real and urgent.
My career has been dedicated to improving lives across North Carolina and ensuring every voice is heard—not silenced to serve one politician’s goals. I believe in service that helps our community thrive, not partisan loyalty.
So, I ask: What has the Governor—or my opponent—actually done for the 106th District?
My record is clear and speaks for itself:
Secured over $23 million in direct resources for Mecklenburg County.
Supported countless nonprofits and community organizations.
Fought to expand Medicaid and championed a historic $835 million investment in mental health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use services.
Worked to eliminate school lunch debt so every child can learn.
Pushed for more jail inspectors to prevent overdoses and suicides.
Ensured equitable COVID-19 resource distribution for our most vulnerable.
Negotiated to ensure five North Carolina HBCUs benefit from sports wagering legislation.
I’ve spent years delivering results for our communities. I will continue fighting for the 106th District—not for a political agenda, but for the people I serve.
